Peaceful coexistence between the communities of Dédougou: Commitments finalized with signatures

Dédougou, (AIB) – The Secretary General of Mouhoun Province, Boureima Ouédraogo, chaired, on Saturday July 27, 2024, a meeting to share the process and the signing of the commitment document between internally displaced people and host communities of the city of Dédougou. under the initiative of the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue.

This signing ceremony, held on Saturday July 27, 2024, aims to strengthen dialogue between the displaced and host communities in the community of Dédougou by establishing, adopting and signing commitments that make it possible to prevent tension between them and manage.

It aims to recall and complete the commitments identified to alleviate tension between the displaced and their hosts in the Dédougou commune, to validate and sign the commitments made in the presence of other key actors and to a monitoring committee establish a commitment to prevent. and managing all conflicts between displaced communities and host communities.

According to the mediation consultant of the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue, Daouda Sawadogo, the aim of this process is to establish cohesion between populations in the security context that our country is suffering.

For him, it is the result of long isolated actions for peace and social integration.

“The Center for Humanitarian Dialogue is pleased to see the outcome of this process. We hope that it will be an example and a leitmotif to live together in the Dédougou commune and therefore throughout the Boucle du Mouhoun region,” he said.

In view of the massive displacement of populations who left their areas due to insecurity to find refuge in Dédougou, the tension between communities crystallized due to restrictions related to the performance of certain maintenance activities imposed by the scarcity of certain natural resources.

Faced with this difficult situation, community leaders in Mouhoun province asked for support, to restore communication between the host communities and the displaced communities and, in this way, structure the peaceful exploitation of certain resources.

The diagnosis made by the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue showed that there are sources of tension between internally displaced people and their hosts which endanger social cohesion and peaceful coexistence.

Given the diversity of the issues, it was wise to limit the intervention involved by adopting and signing commitments that could prevent and manage tensions between them.

The President of the special delegation of the Dédougou commune, Dieudonné Tougfo, welcomed this initiative which seeks to promote peace, social cohesion and peaceful coexistence between the displaced communities and those hosts.

“This pledge is timely in the sense that it demands its rights and duties for each party and also makes recommendations to stakeholders for perfect peace and harmony,” he said.

He expressed his gratitude to the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue for its beneficial initiative and hoped that it would stand by the monitoring committee to support them through its technical expertise to succeed in its mission.

Similarly, Massa Dédougou welcomed the commitment made to deal with any incident between host communities and those displaced.

“The initiative will first solve the problem in our town, in our community and also in other areas,” emphasized Massa de Dédougou.

He hoped that the commitment monitoring committee would be open to everyone who can help him to succeed in his mission for the happiness of our different communities.

One of the representatives of the host communities, Mamadou Diallo, hoped that the initiative would become very popular in all areas in order to facilitate peaceful coexistence between communities for a Burkinabe of peace and integration.

Similarly, Moussa Dao, the representative of the internally displaced communities, welcomed the commitments made and finds that this invites them to cooperate better to live together.

For the secretary-general of Mouhoun province, Boureima Ouédraogo, the double security and humanitarian crisis that Mouhoun Province has, like the other provinces of the country, Dédougou, which is the center and capital of the region, recorded a large number of internals. displaced people, which creates cohabitation problems.

“It is right that the center for humanitarian dialogue came to the rescue to alleviate these small difficulties that hinder living together between host communities and internally displaced people. We will support the initiative and ensure that the commitments signed will be respected and their implementation will not create a problem for peaceful coexistence,” said Mr. Ouédraogo.

The various stakeholders took their turn signing their signatures on the document which is their commitment to social integration and peaceful coexistence.

A commitment monitoring committee has been established with seven members and brings together all stakeholders.
