by time news

On Monday, February 5, the rotation of the Pico y Placa begins in Medellín for the first half of 2024

  • With the new rotation, the number from the last semester of 2023 will not be repeated and the license plate restriction days from the last two years will be taken into account.
  • The measure exempts Regional Avenue, Las Palmas Avenue and the West Road, among others, and will apply without exception to all neighborhood roads.

Starting Monday, February 5, Medellín and its metropolitan area will have a new rotation of the Pico y Placa for cars, motorcycles and taxis, for the first half of the year.

The rule will be implemented from Monday to Friday between 5:00 am and 8:00 pm The period of the new digits will be extended until July 5 and the regional and national connection roads will be exempt: Regional Avenue, Las Palmas and the road to the West. It will apply normally on all roads in the neighborhoods, including the townships.

The first week, that is, between February 5 and 11, the measure will be pedagogical and from February 12 onwards it will be sanctioning. Failure to comply generates a fine of 15 current legal daily minimum wages and the immobilization of the vehicle.

The restriction includes campers, motorcycles and ATVs, and will be made according to the last digit of the license plate.

For two- and four-stroke motorcycles, tricycles, tricycles and mopeds, it will apply with the first number of the plate.

The rotation for private vehicles is like this:

  • Monday: 5 and 8
  • Tuesday: 1 and 4
  • Wednesday: 2 and 0
  • Thursday: 3 and 6
  • Friday: 7th and 9th

“By decision of the last administration, the rotation of the Pico y Placa was carried out by drawing at the Medellín Lottery facilities. Since it was a random rotation, it could happen that the same number was repeated. For example, plates ending in 2 have been restricted for three consecutive periods, which has caused discomfort. “We built a technical and statistical method in which the numbers from the last semester of 2023 are not repeated and the license plate restriction days of the last two years are taken into account,” explained the Secretary of Mobility, Mateo González Benítez.

Electric, hybrid and natural gas cars that have an updated traffic license will not have to request written authorization again for the exemption and will automatically be excluded from it, since the Ministry of Mobility has a connection with the Single National Traffic Registry. (RUNT). This will subtract about 66,000 exemption requests, that is, 36.83% of those made.

For the rotation of the Pico y Placa in the Individual Public Transport modality, that is, taxis, the agreement with the union on the biweekly rotation methodology will be maintained, varying the day of the week per month, taking into account only business days and continuing the sequence that has been carried since 2016.

These decisions are adopted by the 10 municipalities of the Aburrá Valley Metropolitan Area in the Metropolitan Mobility Council held last Thursday, January 25.
