Pedestrians soon alone on the sidewalks, without bikes or scooters?

by time news

The National Council for Road Safety (CNSR) will recommend, on Monday, to “legally” reserve the sidewalks for pedestrians, said Road Safety. This measure would aim to limit the risk of collision with bicycles or scooters.

Meeting in plenary session, the CNSR will make nine recommendations to the government. The seventh provides for “legally defining the sidewalk as a part of the public road reserved for the circulation and use of pedestrians”. The council also wants to “clarify that the sidewalk is physically separated from the roadway in order to be identifiable and detectable by all users”.

Scooters soon to be registered in Paris

This recommendation comes as the City of Paris, where 15,000 scooters are available in self-service, is questioning their “cost/benefit ratio” and their “environmental cost”, according to the assistant for mobility and roads David Belliard . These 15,000 scooters will soon be equipped with a license plate, as in Grenoble, in order to help the police to better verbalize the infringements.

Created in 2001 then put on hiatus between 2008 and 2012, the CNSR is made up of 67 members (elected officials, state representatives, associations, doctors, companies, etc.). It is considered the “parliament” of road safety. Since 2017, it has been chaired by Yves Goasdoué, Mayor of Flers (Orne).
