The Qatar Grand Prix began with a scare for Pedro Acosta before even getting into his Kalex, the same one with which he won last Sunday Moto2 world champion in Malaysia, thus adding his second World Cup win in just three seasons, figures that consolidate the Murcian rider as one of the most prominent stars of the championship who, for sure, will make a lot of noise in his first season in MotoGP with the GASGAS team:
On Wednesday, 48 hours before the action starts at the Losail Circuit, the title contender Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) joined Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia Racing) and the newly crowned Moto2 Champion Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) to enter the dunes with the help of a raid legend, Nasser Al-Attiyah.
The five-time Dakar winner opened the doors of the Nasser Camp to Martín, Espargaró and Acosta, who enjoyed different vehicles on a spectacular circuit that Al-Attiyah has risen among the dunes of the Qatari desert. The 52-year-old also offered them a personalized off-road driving class, teaching them some tricks.
For Jorge Martín, a rookie with this type of buggies, the experience was unforgettable and helped him leave behind the pressure that he carries in his fight with Pecco Bagnaia for the title. “I had a great time driving. It was my first time driving on a sand track, I tried to figure out how to go fast“The truth is that I had a great time,” recognized the Madrid native.
Aleix Espargaró, a driver who does know what it is like to drive a buggy at full speed off the asphalt, claimed that it had been “an incredible experience for me. Nasser has always been an idol for me, he is a Dakar legend, So discovering his world and having him open the doors of his home to us here in the middle of the desert has been an incredible experience.”

Pedro Acosta also had a great time driving one of the Al-Attiyah school buggies. The pilot from Puerto de Mazarrón joined the words of gratitude from his good friends Aleix and Jorge and also acknowledged having had a great time “very good”highlighting the advice that the five-time Dakar champion offered them: “Nasser has been explaining to me how to drive well on the sand, because it is not easy at all with so many potholes, but it was great to start the grand prix like this.”
The already crowned Moto2 world champion starred in the most outstanding image of this dayafter suffering an accident at the wheel of his buggy; Acosta fell over during a skid, and when he tried to right the vehicle, it flipped violently and ended up back on the four wheels of the machine.
Far from stopping, and even though he had lost his glasses during the rollover, Acosta pressed the accelerator pedal to the floor again, although he soon realized that, without glasses, it is almost impossible to drive a car in the desert because of the sand kicked up by the other buggies.
