The Spaniard Augusto Fernandez will remain in the GASGAS-Tech3 team in 2024 and will be joined by his compatriot Pedro Acosta.
The news was announced this Friday in a press release from the team led by Frenchman Hervé Poncharal. Augusto Fernandez, 26, will be in his second season for GASGAS-Tech3 after a promising start this year. He currently occupies 14th place in the world championship with 67 points and notably finished 12 races out of 14 in the points with a 4th place at the French Grand Prix for best result. He was also Moto2 world champion in 2022.
Pedro Acosta, 19, is considered one of MotoGP’s greatest hopes. He was crowned Moto3 champion in 2021 and currently occupies 1st place in the Moto2 championship standings, where he made his debut in 2022, and already has 9 victories. GASGAS is one of the brands of the Austrian KTM group which races motorcycles of this brand in Moto3 and Moto2.
The contract of Pol Espargaro, who is driving this season for GasGas-Tech3, will not be renewed but he will keep a role in the KTM group. The 32-year-old Spaniard was injured during testing for the first race of the season in Portugal and was forced to withdraw from the first eight rounds of the championship. He is the brother of Aleix Espargaro who races in MotoGP for Aprilia.
