Mr. Sanchez was inaugurated on Thursday as president of the government after obtaining the support of 179 deputies, more than the absolute majority (176) necessary during a first investiture vote.
On October 3, King Felipe VI of Spain proposed Mr. Pedro Sanchez as a candidate for the presidency of the government.
This decision was taken after the failure of Alberto Nunez Feijoo, president of the Popular Party (PP), winner of the general elections last July, to obtain the confidence of the Spanish Congress of Deputies during the investiture debate held at the end of September .
The PP came first in the early general elections on July 23 in Spain with 32.91% of the votes and 137 seats in the Congress of Deputies, followed by the PSOE, which won 31.77% of the votes and 121 seats.
