Pedro Sánchez announces that the Federal Committee of the PSOE that will take place this Saturday will approve asking the militancy if it endorses the agreements with the parties with which he is negotiating the amnesty for his inauguration. In this meeting he will also present his position “on the different aspects that affect the investiture process.” In turn, the acting President of the Government has been convinced that the result of the consultation will be favorable to the pacts.

From Brussels, where he appeared after the European Council meeting, he announced that this is a consultation that will be added to the one that was planned on the coalition government agreement between PSOE and Sumar. “On this occasion we are going to incorporate whether the militancy supports that we achieve parliamentary agreements with the rest of the political formations that allow us to achieve the parliamentary majority for the investiture,” Sánchez explained.

Details such as the date of consultation or the specific question that will be asked of the bases will be approved by the Federal Committee and will be known this Saturday, as sources from the PSOE leadership tell Europa Press.

The internal regulations of the PSOE only require consultation with the militancy about a coalition agreement and not regarding parliamentary agreements that could give the green light to an investiture. Despite this, Sánchez will ask the opinion of the bases on the pacts that the PSOE has to sign with PNV, Bildu, BNG, Canary Coalition and especially ERC and Junts, which among other aspects demand an amnesty for those involved in the processes.

The acting President of the Government has justified the fact of not going into more detail or having more consultations about specific agreements because he is now focused on the negotiation process with these political forces. “If I do all this I would have to go to November 27,” he remarked, alluding to the deadline to obtain a majority. If that day passes, the Cortes would be dissolved and new general elections would be called.

Puigdemont vindicates the declaration of independence

The former president of the Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont, has vindicated the unilateral declaration of independence (DUI) approved in the Parliament in 2017 that was not published or applied. “We have not resigned nor will we resign, no matter how many efforts some make to back down,” he said on the social network X, formerly Twitter.

Puigdemont maintains that all peoples have the right to self-determination and that “it is based on this legitimation and the results of the referendum of October 1 that six years ago today the Parliament proclaimed the independence of Catalonia.”

He defends that the Consell of the Republic has translated it into 25 languages and keeps it “alive for when the independence movement as a whole knows how to come together in a single strategy, overcoming partisan temptations.”
