Pedro Santa Lopes, however, refused to anticipate names for the team that the prime minister-designate should call to the executive, to be announced on March 28th, remembering that Luís Montenegro has “a lot of experience” in politics.
In addition to praising the qualities of Luís Montenegro, Pedro Santana Lopes warned that it is necessary to reform the political system in Portugal.
Regarding an agreement with Chega, Santa Lopes supports Montenegro’s leadership “without hesitation” in this matter. “The PSD has a leader and a program,” he explained.
“I think it’s important that Luís Montenegro kept his word,” he added.
In the interview, Pedro Santana Lopes however left a reservation for the future. “I don’t know what will dictate the evolution of events”, adding that he sees no need for “prejudices in accepting Chega’s proposals that do not go against the principles and values of the Rule of Law and the Democratic State and the parties that make up the coalition” of AD.
As for Pedro Nuno Santos, the former PSD leader stated that he has to be “tough and responsible”.
“I have great hope that these two younger leaders can open a new cycle” in which they can “agree” on matters such as Health, Housing or Justice, he stated.
“They have a lot of money to spend and it is a crime against the country not to take advantage of these opportunities”, he also recalled, in a reference to PRR funds.
“I hope they live up to their responsibilities”, he said, including André Ventura in the group.
