The 30-year-old Pegula, ranked sixth in the world, defeated the Czech Karolina Muhova (WTA 52nd) 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the fight for a place in the final, reaching the first Grand Slam final of her career.
Meanwhile, Sabalenka, the finalist of last year’s tournament, defeated the host Emma Navarro (WTA 12th) 6-3, 7-6 (7:2) in the semi-finals.
Sabalenka won the Australian Open this season, and reached the semifinals in the other two Grand Slam tournaments – the French Open and Wimbledon.
Last year, the Belarusian also made it to the finals of the US Open, where she lost 6-2, 3-6, 2-6 to host Coria Goff.
