PEMEX reduced its debt by 25%, says Romero Oropeza

The debt of Mexican Petroleum (Pemex) ha decreased by 32.9 billion dollars during the current administrationwhich is equivalent to a 24.9% less, said the director of the state company, Octavio Romero Oropeza.

During his participation in the daily press conference of the Presidency on Friday, the official explained that during the administrations of former presidents Felipe Calderón and Enrique Peña, the debt of the state oil company increased by 91.9% in those 12 years, going from 68.9 to 132.3 billion dollars between 2007 and 2018.

According to the director of Pemex, the company’s debt currently stands at 99.4 billion dollars as of June 30.

Regarding the production of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, Romero Oropeza indicated that in December 2018 the National Refining System produced 304 thousand barrels per day of the three fuels, while the projection for September 2024 increased to 1 million 2,768 thousand barrels, of which 242 thousand are provided by the Deer Park refinery.

For the first half of 2025, he continued, the projection is to reach a production between Deer Park and the National Refining System of 1,299 barrels per day of these fuels.

For his part, President López Obrador showed a graph of the evolution of the price of Magna gasoline, in which he establishes that during Felipe Calderón’s six-year term it increased by 22.9%, with Enrique Peña another 42.8%, while in his term it has decreased by 5.4%.

“What was proposed was that the price of gasoline would not increase in real terms, and not only did it not increase, but it was reduced,” said the president.

Regarding premium gasoline, López Obrador explained that during Felipe Calderón’s six-year term this fuel increased by 5.7%, under Enrique Peña it rose by 46%, while during his administration it decreased by 6%.

According to López Obrador, diesel prices have decreased by 6.7%, while under former presidents Felipe Calderón they increased by 49.9% and under Enrique Peña Nieto they increased by 48.6%. Meanwhile, LP gas, the president continued, decreased by 24.6% during this six-year term, and under the PRI they increased by 28.9% and under the PAN they decreased by only 1.5%.
