Domestic stock markets continued their losses today. The BSE Sensex fell 0.38 percent to 54,190.79 in the first hour of trade. On the Sensex, NTPC Ltd, Bharti Airtel, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories were the gainers, while Tata Steel, Titan, Asian Paints were the losers. The Nifty 50 index fell 0.43 percent to trade at 16,146.05. Among the Nifty 50, top gainers were Apollo Hospitals, Adani Ports, Special Economic Zone, NTPC Ltd. Among the overall markets, the BSE Midcap index rose 0.17 percent to 22,836.18. The smallcap index closed up 0.15 percent at 25,954.21.

BSE Power and BSE Utilities sectors grew by 2 per cent each and were profitable. All other sector indices were in losses. Adani Green Energy rose over 5 percent today despite weaker markets. The stock has given investors a return of 23 percent in the last five trading sessions. On the other hand, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that it will set up a mechanism to settle international trade in rupees to protect against the fall of the domestic currency. This will not only boost global trade growth but also help increase the interest rate of the rupee globally.
