Pension reform: an SNCF strike on Saturday March 11? The CFDT railway workers will decide on Monday

by time news

Two new days of mobilization against the pension reform are scheduled for next week, February 7 and 11. And for the moment, the first day is the only one, at the SNCF, to have received a watchword from all the unions. The second, a Saturday of departures on vacation, arouses more a simple call to demonstrate than a strike.

Asked about the day of 11, Saturday, on France Info, Thomas Cavel, general secretary of the CFDT Cheminots, announced the holding of a meeting Monday to decide. “We will determine on Monday if we call a strike. We call for massive reinforcement of the ranks of the demonstrations next Saturday, ”says Thomas Cavel. Even if an “overall dynamic is needed to bring about mobilization and create a great movement”, the railway workers’ unions do not want to be the only ones to mobilize against the reform, nor to lose the “support of public opinion public, ”he explained, as February 11 will mark the opening of a holiday departure weekend for zones A and B.

A Saturday to allow “workers and families” to demonstrate

Thursday evening, after the televised intervention of Elisabeth Borne, Laurent Berger, the boss of the CFDT, had called to “continue the mobilization” and “amplify it” next Tuesday and estimated that the day of the 11 would offer “the possibility of come and demonstrate, including for the workers, the workers who do not necessarily come during the week, including with their families”, to “show that there is real discontent and real mobilization”.

On Friday, Transport Minister Clément Beaune said he was considering a new framework for the right to strike, which Thomas Cavel did not appreciate. It is, in his eyes, a “diversion carried by the government”, to divert public opinion from its responsibility in the crisis. “If this situation exists, it is because the government has put forward a bad reform project,” he reproached.

And to recall that since a 2007 law, railway workers have “14 days to raise a social alarm, five days to give notice and 48 hours to individually declare their intention to be on strike”.
