One is opposed to the government’s pension reform, the other is in favor of it. But the two want to be essential players in the hot file of this beginning of the year 2023: the president of the Republicans Éric Ciotti will receive Wednesday afternoon at the Paris headquarters of his party the secretary general of the CFDT, Laurent Berger.
A way for the president of LR, mired in an internal crisis over the party’s new organization chart, to put himself back at the center of the game, in the position of leader of the government party. A position already adopted with the government, and in particular the Prime Minister with whom the Niçois had fruitful exchanges to bring out a copy of the bill that a majority of LR deputies can vote on.
Faced with the leader of the reformist union, but wind up against the reform, Éric Ciotti should congratulate himself for having obtained progress for the employees compared to the content of the initial project: retirement age moved back to 64 years and no longer 65 years, pension minimum of 1200 euros extended to current retirees and not reserved for new ones…
An internal message
The president of LR should recall that he is awaiting “further progress” from the government, as he told Le Figaro last week, in particular on the consideration of long careers. What also send a message internally to the group of LR deputies, including a good ten, led by Aurélien Pradié, propelled since co-number 2 of LR, says he wants to oppose a bill that is too brutal.
“We can clearly see that, in all the parliamentary groups, including among those who are supposed to vote for the law, there is a lot of hesitation”, welcomed Laurent Berger on Sunday evening on France 5 who wants a “parliamentary debate” , without “obstruction”.
Enough to make you want to defend your positions before the party leaders. This is not the first time that the trade union center has discussed with the right. Laurent Berger had already participated in December 2020 in a convention at LR headquarters on the theme of work and purchasing power.
