Pension reform: LFI deputy Antoine Léaument denounces beatings received Thursday evening

by time news

LFI deputy Antoine Léaument denounced beatings with a truncheon inflicted by a member of the police, while he was wearing his tricolor scarf during the evacuation of the Parisian demonstration against the pension reform on Thursday evening.

With LFI colleagues, “we observe law enforcement operations” during the demonstrations, he explained. During the evacuation of the Place de la Bastille, around 8:45 p.m. in Paris, “I went to see a policeman whom I saw beating the blind man with a truncheon to tell him to stop”, affirms the deputy of the Essone.

“The shield to push” the demonstrators towards the exit “was enough. The young people present were not violent, they were peaceful”, he believes, even if “some elements wanted to make contact”.

Girded with his tricolor scarf, the deputy first loses a protective helmet he was wearing, then we see him receive at least two blows from a truncheon, according to images he posted on the social network Twitter. He is then back with his hands on his head to protect himself.

“I didn’t realize the blows I took. I protected my head. I saw the violence of the images afterwards, ”says the deputy, who is doing well and then went to the National Assembly for the evening session.

10 wounded among the police

“If the policeman doesn’t see that I have my scarf, it’s worrying. It means that he does not look where he is hitting with a truncheon, ”criticizes Antoine Léaument, who does not yet know if he intends to follow up on these images. On this video, we also see a hooded individual trying to kick a member of the police.

Clashes and damage once again marred the demonstrations in Nantes, Rennes, Quimper and Lyon, where a photographer was injured during a police charge. In Paris, where the police dispersed the last demonstrators around 8:45 p.m., the prefecture reported Thursday evening 47 arrests and 10 injured among the police.
