Put the pressure on again and again. There motion of censure tabled by 149 deputies of the Nupes against the government ofElisabeth Borne, examined this Monday afternoon in the Assembly, did not collect the majority necessary to bring down the Prime Minister. He missed 50 votes.

Filed Thursday by the Nupes, after the cacophonous debate on the proposal to repeal the 64-year-old for a new legal retirement age, the motion aimed first and foremost to defend the rights and prerogatives of Parliament. “Under pressure from the executive, the President of the National Assembly declared inadmissible, under article 40 of the Constitution, the amendments proposing to maintain a legal retirement age set at 62 years and the initial timetable for the increase in the contribution period. (…) Never during the Fifth Republic was an amendment deemed inadmissible aimed at restoring in its initial version a bill declared admissible”, accuse the 149 deputies of the signatory left alliance, who promised, by A ” June 8 oath “, to do everything that the law allowed them to call into question the pension reform. The LFI, EELV, PS and Communist deputies strongly denounced “this endangerment of parliamentary democracy and the separation of powers”.

Defended by the socialist Valérie Rabault in the hemicycle, then debated by each of the parliamentary groups, the motion was supported by 239 parliamentarians who decided to vote for it. Remember that 289 deputies had to be assembled to bring down the government.

This is the 17th time in a year that Elisabeth Borne has had to defend her legitimacy to lead the government in the face of a divided Assembly, where the oppositions cannot claim a majority, even of union. “Regularly some of the opposition leads us to demonstrate again that there is no alternative majority,” she recalled on France 3 on Sunday.

On March 20, after the executive appealed to Article 49.3 to have the pension reform adopted, a cross-partisan motion of censure passed 9 votes for adoption.
