First step in a decisive day. Unsurprisingly, the Senate, with a majority on the right, adopted the pension reform this Thursday morning, before the highly anticipated last step in the National Assembly this afternoon.
The vote was won by 193 votes against 114, after a session of one hour and three quarters. Unsurprisingly, the LR and centrist groups voted overwhelmingly in favor of the reform, adding their voices to the majority Renaissance and Indépendants RDPI groups. But 6 LR senators nevertheless voted against, as did 7 centrists. 19 LR senators abstained, as well as 13 centrists.
The senators began at 9 a.m. the explanations of vote on the compromise text on the pension reform, a text “deeply enriched day after day and over the course of the discussion”, affirmed the Minister of Labor Olivier Dussopt.
“Nothing is settled”
At the end of these explanations of vote, the senators voted one last time before the much-awaited stage in the afternoon of the National Assembly, which holds the key to the final adoption of the text.

Late Wednesday evening, after further ministerial consultations, Emmanuel Macron said he wanted a vote on this reform. But “nothing is settled,” said a source within the executive.
After weeks of fierce debates and negotiations under high tension, Emmanuel Macron’s extremely unpopular pension reform should in principle have its parliamentary epilogue on Thursday.
On the social front, following Wednesday’s demonstrations (which brought together 1.7 million people according to the CGT and 480,000 according to the Ministry of the Interior), the inter-union called “solemnly” on parliamentarians to vote against reform.
