Unsurprisingly, the Insoumis chairman of the Finance Committee, Éric Coquerel, announced on Tuesday as admissible the text repeal of the law bringing the year of retirement to 64 years, carried by the centrist group Liot, paving the way for its review on June 8. “I have decided to make admissible the bill on the repeal of the postponement of the retirement age”, he assured this Tuesday, during a press conference.

The LFI deputy claimed a “flexible application” of the Constitution in the name of the defense of “parliamentary initiative” and “right of the opposition”. ” We had l’article 49.3we had the 47.1, it would be good if this time we could go to the vote, it would be democracy, ”said the elected official. The decision of the elected representative of Seine-Saint-Denis was hardly in doubt, despite the ultimate pressure from the executive, brandishing Article 40 of the Constitution. The latter provides that parliamentary initiatives are not admissible if they increase public expenditure.

“A partisan decision”

But Éric Coquerel had already clarified his position in a column published Monday in Le Monde. “To those who show respect for the Constitution on the subject of Article 40, I say that by proceeding in this way they are undermining a much more important constitutional right: that of the right of the opposition. I remind you that no democracy works without political pluralism,” he wrote.

In the process, the majority group denounced this Tuesday morning “a partisan decision” and “a serious attack on our institutions”. “The inadmissibility of the LIOT group’s bill is beyond doubt”, challenged the Renaissance deputies, in a press release.

“A Top Exit”

The independent group Liot (Liberties, Independents, Overseas Territories and Territories) and its 21 deputies put this proposed repeal law on the table on the menu for a day on June 8 dedicated to the group’s texts (“niche”) . His boss Bertrand Pancher intends thereby to offer a “top exit” to the “very serious social and political crisis” generated by the pension reform.

The Liot proposal has the support of the left, the RN and some LRs. It has a chance of being adopted on June 8 at first reading, given the simple relative majority available to the presidential camp. Hence the commotion in macronie, against a text accused of “irresponsible” and without future. This Tuesday morning, the President of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet still castigated an “unconstitutional” text.
