Pensions: why a long-term reform is needed
Exit windows for fragile workers, pension guarantees for young people, facilities for the elderly unemployed and hard work. These are among the second most urgent reforms the president of INPS, Pasquale Tridico, who intervening in connection on 27 April at the Pensions: 30 years of reforms event, underlined the need to finally start long-term reforms.
The sustainability of the pension system is a recurring theme in all countries that have periodically adopted reforms to reduce long-term imbalances, the president pointed out, and these reforms have resulted in a reduction in pension allowances and a move away in the years of possibility to access the pension.
This has generated a strong demand for flexibility which in Italy has been responded to through temporary measures, from the interventions to safeguard the so-called “exodates” to the social Ape, up to Quota 100 and the Female Option. Tridico has a clear idea of how the pension reform should be done.
