One of the commitments made to Brussels in 2021 within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan was the reform of the public pension system and the preparation of a report on public spending projections that these will entail in the coming years. This quantifies the cost and consequences of the “set of balanced measures” taken “to improve the adequacy of pensions, with the recovery of the right to maintain purchasing power, and their equity and sustainability.”

Thus, the first estimate made in The document was that of the revaluation that contributory pensions will experience this year. The text is prior to the data (which is not yet official) provided last week by the INE, so that compared to the 3.8% that apparently will increase next year, the text speaks of 4%. This forecast is followed by those for the following three years, in which a growth of the annual CPI and, therefore, of contributory pensions of 2% is established. So, if these estimates are met, their amounts will rise by 6% between 2024 and 2027.

On the other hand, there are non-contributory and minimum pensions, which add the CPI to the Government’s commitment to progressively increase their amounts until 2027 to improve the economic conditions of those who receive them. This commitment was formalized in the last pension reform.
