New Delhi: The number of people traveling by domestic air in the country has increased compared to last year. According to the data, more than 1.29 crore people traveled by domestic air in July. This figure is 7.3% more than the same period last year. These figures were released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday. However, according to the data, the number of people traveling domestically in July was less than in June. In June, 1.32 crore people traveled by domestic flights.

According to DGCA, IndiGo maintained its dominance in domestic air traffic. In July, the market share of this airline increased to 62 percent. At the same time, Air India’s share fell to 14.3 percent. Vistara’s domestic market share increased by 10 percent. On the other hand, AIX Connect’s share fell to 4.5 percent and SpiceJet’s share fell to 3.1 percent. Apart from this, the share of Akasa Air and Alliance Air also decreased to 4.7 percent and 0.9 percent respectively.

More than 9 lakh people travelled in 7 months
DGCA said that in these 7 months between January to July this year, the number of passengers in domestic airlines was 923.35 lakh. Whereas during the same period last year, this number was 881.94 lakh. Thus the annual growth was 4.70 percent and monthly growth was 7.33 percent.

A huge amount had to be spent as compensation
The data also revealed that 1,114 passengers were denied boarding and airlines spent Rs 112.71 lakh on compensation and amenities. Cancellations affected 1,54,770 passengers and airlines spent Rs 110.59 lakh on compensation and amenities in this regard. Flight delays affected 3,20,302 passengers in July and airlines spent Rs 341.05 lakh on amenities.

1097 complaints received
The cancellation rate of airlines reached 1.90 percent in July. DGCA said that a total of 1097 complaints were received by domestic airlines during July 2024. The number of complaints per 10 thousand passengers in July 2024 was around 0.84.
