Kolkata:

Following the assassination of Trinamool Congress leader Bahadur Sheikh, a mob set fire to houses on Tuesday in Bokdui village in Rampurhat area of West Bengal’s Birbhum district. Eight of them were burned to death.

State Congress leader and Member of Parliament Adir Ranjan Chaudhary has written a letter to President Ramnath Govind regarding the incident.

In it he stated:

People are insecure as the law and order situation in West Bengal is deteriorating. The political assassinations taking place in the state are worrying. It is very sad that there have been 26 political assassinations in the state in the last month.

Electoral violence and post-election violence have claimed many lives. The whole state is in the grip of fear and violence. There is no point in sending a special investigation team. I raised this serious matter in Parliament to draw the attention of the nation to the disruption of the constitutional machinery in the State.

In view of the law and order situation in West Bengal, I urge you to use Article 355 of the Constitution. Thus he said. Adir Ranjan Chowdhury, who is visiting the Birbhum area where the violence took place today, is said to have submitted a report on the situation to the Congress upper house.

Meanwhile, the BJP has demanded the resignation of Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal Chief Minister responsible for the Beerboom violence.
