Madurai: In Madurai Corporation’s Amruth project, the plastic pipes installed instead of iron pipes for the distribution of Mullai Periyar collective drinking water are being broken due to vehicles being driven on them and burning due to burning.
Usually iron water pipes are installed for houses and streets. They have already installed iron pipes in the Cauvery Joint Water Project. Only in Mullai Periyar drinking water project they install blue colored plastic pipes.
Plastic screws are used to connect the bent parts of the plastic pipe from the main pipe dug in the street to the houses. Homeowners have installed an additional iron pipe on top of their plastic pipe to prevent it from being broken by a vehicle.
When the garbage lying on top of a plastic pipe was burnt on Tirupalai Balaji Nagar Road, the pipe also caught fire, melted and charred. Similarly, pipes are damaged in other areas.
What kind of iron pipe is this so as not to burn in fire? Now the newly laid road will be re-excavated to repair the pipeline. The people of the area are lamenting that this will affect the traffic in the future.
