“People are surprised that I’m down to earth”

Before the German designer Harald Glööckler Tomorrow, Thursday, he attended the Vienna Opera Ball at the Grand Hotel together with the “Flame of Peace” President Herta Margarete Habsburg-Lorraine a champagne reception. Because Glööckler has been a peace ambassador for about a year. “I am very proud to be an ambassador. Peace is the most important thing and peace starts at home.”

He had once again styled himself very extravagantly for this appointment – like a modern Mozart with a coat from his new collection and particularly eye-catching finger jewelry.

In an interview with the KURIER, he showed a completely different side: “How can you perceive someone who is so complex or an artist in general with all colors if you are not in their skin?” He notices “that we live in a time in which people are fundamentally very superficial and only look at external appearances.”

Glööckler himself is often described as “shrill”, but prefers the description “eccentric”. “I was the way I am today as a child, I haven’t changed. I think if 37 years ago people hadn’t said that there was a flashy new fashion designer, but that he was completely normal, then we wouldn’t need to sit down together today “, he also sees his extravagance as the secret of his success.

It also makes the mix. “But I’m down-to-earth to the same extent that I’m a visionary, a realist and to the same extent that I’m an artist, an entrepreneur and to the same extent that I’m eccentric. And that always surprises people, that I’m so down-to-earth, like that nice to deal with.”

He will be attending the Vienna Opera Ball this year with his fortune teller Theodora Conte. “I love the Opera Ball because I like tradition. And in times when things are difficult, we need fairy tales.” He also contributes to peace, “because a lot of people celebrate harmoniously that evening. Something beautiful can only do good. Or to put it with Goethe: ‘The privilege of the beautiful is that it doesn’t have to be useful.'”

After the champagne reception, we continued to the Bösendorfer Salon for a classical concert under the motto “Glööckler of Oz”.

Finally, tea is served by our own sommelier at “Glööckler at Tea Time”.
