Chennai: Special camps for Aadhaar number linking started yesterday across Tamil Nadu. People are gathering in these camps and linking their Aadhaar numbers. In this case, Electricity Minister Senthil Balaji yesterday inspected the special camp being conducted at the electricity bill collection center in Mylapore.
Later, he told reporters, “In all 2,811 divisional offices of the Electricity Board, Special camps will be held till 31st. There are separate counters for electricity bill payment and separate counters for connecting Aadhaar number. Some people are spreading wrong information that linking Aadhaar number with electricity connection will cancel the free electricity. Aadhaar number is linked to the electricity connection to improve the electricity board.
Even if one has 5 electricity connections, free electricity will continue to be provided. Also, one Aadhaar number can be linked to up to 10 electricity connections. If there is a link in the name of the deceased, the name can be changed in the special camp and Aadhaar number can be linked. It has been advised to start special camps for the differently abled and the elderly. So far 15 lakh people have linked Aadhaar number with electricity connection,” he said.
