The Minister of Public Works (MOP), Romeo Rodríguez, stated that, compared to the period of December last year, El Salvador has had a 22% reduction in people killed by road accidents.

“From December 23 to December 27, there are 22% fewer deaths in road accidents compared to the same period in 2022,” said the head of the MOP.

According to the Public Works official, this reduction has been generated due to anti-doping controls; as a result of this action, the number of people arrested has doubled in this period, compared to the same dates in 2022.

“So far this year we have had a total of 1,818 dangerous drivers taken off the road. These people have to go through a judicial process for the criminal offense of dangerous driving. The vehicles are confiscated if there is no one else who can handle them,” said Deputy Minister of Transportation, Nelson Reyes.
