Spokesperson Kim Hye-ran said in a commentary that day, “Last year, the Democratic Party and other opposition parties and civic groups fiercely opposed this and took to the streets spreading rumors about fish contaminated with radioactive material and cesium-containing sea bass.” She added, “Contrary to concerns at the time, no evidence has emerged to date that our fishery products or waters are contaminated.”
He continued, “While the Democratic Party has been more active than anyone else in inciting rumors, it has neglected its duty when it comes to related legislation.”
He criticized, “Last year, while traveling around the country, he pledged to process the ‘Fukushima 4 Laws’ to support the damage suffered by fishermen as a party platform, but it was eventually scrapped due to the expiration of the term, and it was not even included in the list of party platform bills in the 22nd National Assembly.”
He continued, “Rather than apologizing and reflecting on the instigation of the rumors, the Democratic Party is once again showing its eagerness to create fear.”
He criticized, “Now they are changing their tune and saying, ‘Even if it doesn’t affect us now, we don’t know later,’ and are once again making statements that are either ‘or.’” He added, “If the Democratic Party’s claims are true, the North Pacific countries, including the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, where the ocean current reaches us before our country, will not be able to just sit still.”
He said, “This is why the Democratic Party’s talk about people’s livelihood and food security sounds like empty talk. It only reveals its dark intentions to gain political advantage through tall tales.”
He said, “Keep in mind that our wise citizens will no longer be fooled by groundless marketing rumors,” and urged, “The Democratic Party should stop its incitement now and focus its efforts on protecting our fishermen and fisheries owners and strengthening the competitiveness of the fishing industry.”
He continued, “The People Power Party and the Yoon Seok-yeol government will continue to do their best to protect the safety of the people through thorough monitoring, as the discharge of contaminated water is a long-term task and is directly related to the health of the people.”
