On the 20th, the People Power Party criticized the Democratic Party of Korea for pushing ahead with the impeachment hearing of President Yoon Seok-yeol, saying, “This is an unprecedented impeachment hearing that we have never seen or heard of. The Democratic Party should stop making the National Assembly a laughing stock in front of history.”
Kim Hye-ran, spokesperson for the People Power Party, said in a commentary that day, “The Democratic Party unilaterally pushed ahead with the unprecedented presidential impeachment hearing in constitutional history, and ended up turning the National Assembly into a mess.”
Spokesperson Kim said, “They have been obsessed with intimidating and humiliating witnesses by demonstrating an animalistic National Assembly filled with physical fights and shouting, regardless of the justification they put forward,” and “The fact that yesterday’s situation occurred is due to the Democratic Party’s dreaminess and imagination in packaging the impeachment petition, which should have been concluded without referring it to a plenary session, as ‘public sentiment,’ and in unilaterally holding an outrageous and illegal hearing that does not meet the requirements and procedures.”
He then said, “In the first place, holding a hearing to report the contents of the petition to the Speaker of the National Assembly not only has no legal basis, but also the petition itself violates the Constitution and the law by insulting the President, a state organ, while the matter is under investigation or trial.”
He said, “The Democratic Party is emphasizing the legitimacy of the hearing, saying that it is being held in accordance with the will of more than 1.4 million citizens, but this is a typical example of centrist politics, and in reality, it is nothing more than the Democratic Party’s attempt to impeach using public sentiment as an excuse.”
Spokesperson Kim said, “If you truly mourn the unjust death of a young Korean citizen, it would be natural to focus on uncovering the truth to relieve that resentment, rather than using it as a tool to provoke political strife and an excuse to impeach the president.”
He added, “The more the Democratic Party uses its imagination and unreasonable measures to protect former leader Lee Jae-myung, the more it will inevitably become distant from public sentiment.”
