Britons report skipping meals due to crisis

Millions of people are skipping meals in Britain due to the cost of living crisis, according to polls.

Consumer price index inflation rose to 10.1% in September from 9.9% in August as food prices in Britain rose 14.5% from a year earlier.

This is the highest it has been in 40 years, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

However, new polls in Britain have revealed that millions of households skip meals or struggle to afford healthy food.

It also revealed that 85% of people in the UK are spending less on food as a result of cost of living issues.

In a survey conducted in this regard, half of the respondents said that they are buying cheaper products than they used to buy before.

Even among those who reported living comfortably, 47% said they took steps to save money on food.

And of the 9% who reported living in difficult circumstances, half said their families skip meals.

Almost half of all consumers (46%) report that it is more difficult to eat healthily compared to before the crisis. This rises to 78% among those who are most financially strapped.

The survey found that 42% of households are cutting back on expensive purchases, with 36% shopping at supermarkets, other stores or online.
