Food prices have skyrocketed due to the unprecedented economic downturn in Sri Lanka. Because of this people are suffering from malnutrition. There is one price for going to bed at night and another price for going out at night which has shocked people. The price of a cup of tea has crossed 100 rupees. The price of a kilo of rice has touched 500 rupees. Eggs are selling for Rs 38 and gas cylinders for Rs 5,000. Petrol and diesel prices have also gone up several times. Thus many petrol stocks are closed without petrol and diesel. There was a 13-hour power outage due to a gas shortage. It is said to be the largest economic crisis Sri Lanka has faced since independence.
13 hour power cut
Thermal power plants have been paralyzed due to a shortage of diesel, and the Sri Lankan government has reportedly instructed more than 10 lakh government employees to work from home to save fuel. Petrol and diesel could not be imported due to non-payment of diesel imports. Due to this the power outage time is said to increase further in the coming days. Unable to perform surgeries due to continuous electrocution. It has also been asked not to light street lights to save electricity. People are worried about not knowing what to do as such a bad situation persists.
