People’s Artist Nguyen Hai is a familiar face on Vietnamese screens.
In 2019, the male artist retired according to the regime. Many viewers thought that he would disappear from television, but People’s Artist Nguyen Hai revealed that he had been retired for 5 years but worked 5 times more than when he was still in office.
“In 2019, when I had just retired, I participated in the film “Quynh Doll”, after that film, I joined “Bao Dam”. And not long ago, I went to Ho Chi Minh City to make the 86-episode film “Ran Cobra” and short films for VTC, VTV2 and a few theatrical films by young directors.
I am also a lawyer, providing free legal advice to the people. I am also opening an education center, sometimes I teach at film clubs, some film experience centers. In addition, I also participate in the program “Humanitarian Bridge” in Nam Dinh, go to many charity programs in Lai Chau, Ha Giang… Honestly, I travel so much that I don’t have time to rest,” People’s Artist Nguyen Hai confided.
Although busy but Artist Nguyen Hai always tries to spend time with his wife and children, because for him, family is always the top priority. Talking about his wife, the actor revealed: “She also studied in the same acting class, course 1, Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema with People’s Artist Minh Hoa, Meritorious Artist Bich Thuy, Meritorious Artist Quoc Tuan… Later, she switched to teaching music, so she is very sympathetic to her husband’s work.”
Actor Nguyen Hai and his wife have two children. The eldest son was born in 1988, studied abroad in England, is a police captain. The youngest daughter was born in 1994, also married.
“My family is a family of three generations living together in a 41m2 house. After my children got married, they all lived in my house. I live on the 2nd floor, my children live on the 3rd and 4th floors. I have a principle that my children, including my daughter-in-law and son-in-law, must love each other very much. My grandchildren are treated equally.
The children must be patient and look at each other to live. The eldest son will be the eldest brother, guiding and directing the younger siblings in the family. If there are any problems that cannot be resolved, they will ask their parents for their opinions. If the parents cannot make a decision, they will hold a family meeting. But fortunately, my family has never had to have an internal meeting,” he recounted.
Although having many houses, real estates…, the whole family of artist Nguyen Hai still lives in poverty because: “A small house is not scary, only a small stomach and not caring about each other are scary. I have let my children live separately but they always say “wherever you go, I will stay”. To be honest, I don’t lack land and houses but my children want to live with their parents. My house is small but cozy”.
