The Voice of the People Party called on the UN Security Council to open an independent and comprehensive international judicial investigation to uncover the circumstances of the crime of stealing Libyan funds frozen in Belgium and returning them to the Libyan people.
In a statement obtained by “Ain Libya”, the party expressed its deep concern over the dangerous information revealed by the Russian Deputy Representative to the United Nations during the Security Council meeting on August 21, 2024, where he indicated that the Belgian “Euroclear” fund still holds about 15 billion euros of frozen Libyan funds, and about 2.8 billion euros of interest on the frozen Libyan funds were stolen there.
The party stressed that this blatant theft represents a flagrant violation of the rights of the Libyan people and requires urgent action to achieve justice.
The party’s statement noted that the West’s continued practice of stealing others’ assets under the cover of the law is unacceptable and must stop immediately.
The Voice of the People Party announced its support for the briefing of the Russian Deputy Representative on the need for the rapid appointment of a new Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya and Head of the Mission, noting that this person must be respected by all parties and maintain complete neutrality without private agendas in order to be able to build a respectful and comprehensive dialogue with all concerned Libyan and international parties.
