The Voice of the People Party announced its categorical rejection of the proposed comprehensive European approach to combat illegal immigration in Libya.

This came in a statement by the party, a copy of which was obtained by “Ain Libya”, regarding the statements of the Vice President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, during his participation in the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum, which was held yesterday, Wednesday, in the capital, Tripoli.

The party stressed that Libyan solutions to confront the challenges of illegal immigration must stem from local reality and national needs, and not from external proposals that do not take into account the specificities and aspirations of Libyan society.

According to the statement of the Voice of the People Party, the comprehensive Libyan approach includes the following:

  1. Increase the number of voluntary flights by IOM.
  2. The need to intensify voluntary return trips for illegal immigrants in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration, which ensures their return with dignity and respect.
  3. Increase humanitarian evacuation flights by UNHCR, and increase flights for migrants in need of international protection in coordination with UNHCR.
  4. Prioritize combating illegal immigration in cities and villages and securing land borders.

The Voice of the People Party called for intensifying security efforts to combat illegal immigration in Libyan cities and villages, and ensuring the security of land borders to prevent the flow of illegal immigrants.

The party’s statement stressed that Libya will not be a guard for European shores and will not accept the settlement of illegal immigrants of all social and age groups on its territory, and the international community, especially the European Union, must assume its responsibilities towards this crisis in a fair and balanced manner.

The party called on the head of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, to adhere to Libyan sovereignty and reject proposals that do not serve the national interest, and to work to enhance sustainable Libyan solutions to confront the challenges of illegal immigration in a way that ensures the stability and security of Libya and its people.
