It is customary to light the Mahadeepam at the top of the hill on the annual Thirukarthika Deepathirunala on the Elambalur Brahmarishi hill near Perambalur. Accordingly, a 210 meter long Karthika lamp was mounted on the Maha Koppara at the top of Brahmarishimalai today. Earlier, special pujas were performed at the Shiva temple at the foot of the hill. Following this, the Karthika lamp was mounted on the top of the hill.
Thavasi swamis lit the torch. Thousands of devotees have come and worshiped the torch. Similarly, in the Perambalur district, in the temples including Perambalur Brahmapuriswarar temple, Chettikulam Ekampareswarar temple, Valikandapuram Valiswarar temple, special poojas are being performed for the Swamis by lighting the Thirukarthika lamp.
