There is one new qualifier and another eliminated in the BetPlay I-2024 League. Deportivo Pereira won by the minimum (0-1) at the Atanasio Girardot, securing its place in the home runs and condemning the elimination of Atlético Nacional, which said goodbye to the finals due to the demand of its fans.
Pereira silence the Athanasius
First even period with few emotions in the capital of Antioquia. At the start, Salvador Ichazo (who later left the field due to injury) prevented Verdolaga from scoring after two consecutive shots by Édier Ocampo, in what was the local team’s best finish in the initial 45′. Pereira improved as the minutes passed and had the clearest chances before the break.
Before half an hour of play was over, Harlen ‘Chipi Chipi’ Castillo reported with the save of the day – and perhaps of the tournament -. First, the Nacional goalkeeper responded to a powerful shot from Andrés Felipe Ibargüen and on the rebound, he made an impressive intervention to deny Alejandro Piedrahita the goal.
At the end of the first half, Carlos Darwin Quintero silenced Atanasio. The forward appeared in the area to connect a cross behind Ibargüen and with his right foot scored the 0-1 in favor of Pereira.
Nacional is left with 10 and sentences its elimination
At the beginning of the second half, the situation became complicated for the Antioquia team. After the VAR review, the referee showed the direct red card to Juan Felipe Aguirre, as he considered that he fouled off an obvious scoring opportunity.
Although they played 40 minutes with one man less, Nacional – with more desire than football – tried to find an equalizer in the last stretch of the match. However, he did not generate dangerous actions, he said goodbye under criticism from fans and practically sentenced his future in the I-2024 League.
