Perisur Dinosaur Robbery: Exhibition faked theft to collect insurance
The theft of the “Perisur dinosaur” took an unexpected turn when it was revealed that the incident was likely faked to collect insurance. The alleged theft of the dinosaur from the Jurassic World exhibit at the Perisur shopping center sparked public concern.
The Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City investigated the case and concluded that the dinosaur was not actually stolen. Instead, the organizers of the Jurassic World exhibition staged the robbery to collect the hefty insurance payout of 2 million pesos.
Journalist Antonio Nieto shared photographs of the allegedly stolen dinosaur and reported that it was controlled by a glove, which was not actually stolen. The investigation revealed that the dinosaur was likely malfunctioning, leading to the staged robbery.
The exhibition’s success in international markets brought significant attention to Mexico, but the faked robbery incident damaged the organizers’ reputation.
Company points finger at employees
Following the alleged theft, the company pointed fingers at its employees, but investigations confirmed that they were not involved. The company could not even prove ownership of the dinosaur, which was less than a meter and a half tall.
Despite the lack of evidence linking the employees, the company filed a theft report to collect the insurance money.
