The situation on the border of Belarus, to which neighboring countries are pulling military equipment, is tense, Valentin Rybakov, Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN, told RIA Novosti.

“We understand that the situation is tense to such an extent that any provocations and any human factor or mistake can lead to extremely tragic consequences,” Rybakov stressed.

Rybakov said that President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko instructed the Ministry of Defense to “adequately respond” to the growth in the number of military forces of other states near the country’s borders. According to the permanent representative, Lukashenko stressed that Belarus does not want to escalate the situation, but will defend its national interests, including jointly with the Russian military in the framework of cooperation in the Union State.
