Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. Tajul Islam said that all institutions including the City Corporation should work in coordination to permanently solve the waterlogging during the monsoon season.
He said this in the President’s speech at the ‘Preparation and Planning to Relieve Flooding in the Monsoon Season’ held in the Conference Room of the Local Government Department at the Secretariat on Thursday (July 4).
Regarding waterlogging in Dhaka city, the minister said that waterlogging has reduced to a large extent in Dhaka city. Earlier, when it rained in Shantinagar, Tejgaon area, the water would remain stagnant for more than a week, now that situation has changed. Due to heavy rains, the waterlogging in areas including Dhanmondi, lasts for a few hours after the rain stops.
Apart from this, the city corporation has been instructed to clear the areas where waterlogging is still seen.
He said that to solve the waterlogging in Chittagong city, a solution should be found through collective efforts to eliminate waterlogging in Chittagong city. All institutions including City Corporation, WASA, Chittagong Development Authority must work with a common goal. Chittagong city waterlogging can be solved by implementing not short term but long term master plan.
