Last August 30, Perseverance, a NASA robotic rover that has been circulating on the surface of Mars since 2021, took several photographs of this bright column-shaped structure. The structure moved from left to right.

An analysis of the photos has confirmed that it is a “dust devil.”
Dust devils are striking swirls of dust that appear and disappear on Mars. As with tornadoes on Earth, a dust devil is created by an ascending column of rotating hot air. When the column spins fast enough, it picks up small grains of dust from the ground, making the vortex visible. (Source: NCYT from Amazings)
