jpnn.comBANDUNG – The 2023/2024 League 1 champion, Persib Bandung, had to be eliminated early from the 2024 President’s Cup.

Persib failed to advance to the semifinals after losing to Persis Solo in the final match of Group A.

In the match held at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung Regency, Thursday (25/7/2024) evening WIB, Persib lost 0-1 to Persis. Ramadhan Sananta became the winner of Laskar Sambernyawa.

The defeat dropped Persib to third place in the standings with a collection of 3 points from 3 matches. Meanwhile, Persis rose to second place with 4 points and is entitled to a ticket to the 2024 President’s Cup semifinals.

Even though it was only a pre-season tournament, Persib’s failure in the President’s Cup drew criticism from their legend, Dadang Kurnia.

Dadang said that coach Bojan Hodak made a blunder by playing second string players at the start of the match against Persis.

“I think from the start, coach Bojan Hodak took the wrong step. Why didn’t he field the core players from the start of the match,” said Dadang, who led Persib to win the first edition of the Indonesian League in 1995.

“In this final match, Persib should be able to maximize the existing (core) players, such as Rezaldi (Hehanusa), Dedi (Kusnandar), David da Silva, and Ciro Alves since the first half, it should be like that,” he continued.

Former Persib player Dadang Kurnia regrets that Persib Bandung did not qualify for the semifinals of the President’s Cup, even though they have the status of champions of Liga 1 2023/2024.
