Persona Fans Share Their Excitement After Alleged Persona 1 Remake Gameplay Leaks Online
Gameplay footage appearing to show an unannounced remake of the original Persona game surfaced online, quickly spreading across social media platforms including Reddit. The video, which runs for just under two minutes, was initially shared on a YouTube channel named P1REMAKE and later hosted on gofile, generating significant discussion among fans of the role-playing game franchise.
Neither publisher Sega nor developer Atlus has confirmed the project exists or commented on the leaked footage. Outlets such as IGN and ComicBook.com emphasize that the clip must be treated as an unverified leak rather than an official announcement.
What the Leaked Footage Shows
The leaked video depicts a modern presentation of the 1996 title, showcasing exploration, combat, event scenes, and a graphic-novel-style social link cutscene, labeled with the subtitle Be Your True Mind
. Fans inspecting the footage have pointed to several details that lend it credibility, including art direction, music, and effects that align with the studio’s recent output.
Key among the supporting details are character animations. Observers noted that the character Eriko appears to share a summoning animation with Yukiko from Persona 4 Revival, an upcoming remake slated for release on February 18, 2027. Additionally, Unreal Engine debug text is visible in the top-left corner of the video, which developers use to show how the engine actively runs.

However, the footage also features elements that have sparked debate and confusion. Most notably, Tatsuya Suou—the protagonist of Persona 2: Innocent Sin—appears during battle sequences, despite not being part of the original Persona cast. Commentators and fans have suggested two main explanations: Tatsuya may be serving as an unfinished placeholder model, or the video could be an internal investor pitch reel rather than a public-facing build. Atlus has a history of utilizing temporary asset placeholders during development, such as using a Persona 2 model for Lisa during the creation of Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne.
Context and Previous Leaks
The appearance of unverified footage mirrors prior leaks that preceded official announcements from Atlus. In-development footage of Persona 3 Reload similarly circulated online before that game was formally revealed, and Persona 6 experienced image and trophy list leaks earlier in the year.

Atlus has steadily revisited its back catalogue following the breakout success of Persona 5 in 2016. Sega released Persona 3 Reload in 2024, and Persona 4 Revival is scheduled to launch in a few months. While Kazuhisa Wada, producer at Atlus’ P-Studio, stopped short of confirming remakes for the first two entries during an August interview, he acknowledged that it is something the team feels they “have to do”.
Despite the excitement among players yearning for modern access to early franchise entries, significant questions remain unanswered. Platforms, a release window, and whether the build is current or even greenlit for public release are still unknown. Neither Sega nor Atlus has responded to requests for comment, leaving it unclear when or by whom the clip was recorded or whether the project will ever be officially announced.
