In the framework of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, MP (Personalized Medicine) stands out once again as a pioneer in the prevention of this disease, presenting a unique procedure in Uruguay.

Prostate cancer, being one of the most common types in men, arises when the cells of the prostate, a gland exclusive to the male sex, begin to proliferate uncontrollably. With statistics indicating that one in eight men will develop this disease, early detection becomes crucial, especially at older ages.

Routine evaluations, recommended starting at age 50, include tests such as prostate antigen and an annual rectal exam. According to MP urologist, Daniel Porto, evolutionary control is key to determining the need for more advanced techniques in diagnosis.

When asked frequently by patients about preventive measures, Porto highlights that the only proven prevention is maintaining a healthy weight, since being overweight significantly increases the incidence of prostate cancer, especially in cases of metabolic syndrome associated with being overweight.

MP at the forefront in the fight against Prostate cancer

In its commitment to prevention and early detection, MP introduces perineal PBP by fusion, becoming the only health center in Uruguay to implement this technology. This revolutionary study combines magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with ultrasound, providing the urologist with unparalleled precision in the location of the lesions to be biopsied. This approach has been shown to be more precise, accessible to previously inaccessible areas, and with fewer complications in perineal puncture compared to conventional methods.

Porto highlights the effectiveness of regular monitoring with specialists and emphasizes that MP’s prostate biopsy system has changed the landscape, notably increasing the detection of prostate cancers.

Compared to conventional transrectal biopsies, where MP has a positivity of 34%, the implementation of the innovative perineal fusion PBP system has raised the detection rate to 54%. This advancement has made a significant difference in diagnostic ability, allowing for more detailed examination of the prostate and more precise sampling.

Porto emphasizes that MP does not charge an additional cost to members for this treatment, which has attracted people from outside in search of this advanced diagnostic system. With 250 procedures performed since its implementation, MP stands out as a benchmark in the region.

Ultimately, awareness of new techniques can drive demand for more advanced diagnostics, improving patients’ quality of life. MP, through its innovative and accessible approach, is not only transforming prostate cancer prevention in Uruguay, but is also leading the way toward more advanced, patient-centered healthcare.
