In order to reduce the risks of circumvention of sanctions, the EU, by approving the 8th package of sanctions against Belarus, has largely adjusted the sanctions imposed on Belarus with the sanctions imposed on Russia, stresses the SRS.
It is stipulated that it is prohibited to import goods from Belarus that allow Belarus to diversify its sources of revenue, thus allowing it to engage in Russian aggression against Ukraine, if these goods originate in Belarus or if they are exported from Belarus. The annex also includes passenger cars.
The said entry ban will not apply to vehicles intended for the use of diplomatic and consular missions, including delegations, embassies and missions, in their movement.
Other persons traveling with a vehicle registered in Belarus will not be able to enter the EU with it, crossing the border of Latvia. A person with a vehicle registered in Belarus will have to return from the border crossing point to the country from which he planned to enter Latvia.
If the person refuses to comply with the instructions of the customs authority, including going back to Belarus or Russia, it will be possible to decide on confiscation of the vehicle in accordance with the regulatory enactments of the customs area.
Persons will be allowed to return from the EU to Belarus with light vehicles registered in Belarus if they are not declared as goods and are used only as a means of transport.
