Peru expressed today before the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) its dissatisfaction with the words expressed the day before by the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, regarding our country and the situation of Pedro Castillo.
Said pronouncement was made by the permanent representative of Peru before the hemispheric organization, Gustavo Adrianzénduring a regular meeting of the Permanent Council.
«I take the floor to express before this council the dissatisfaction of the Peruvian State for what we consider unacceptable expressions expressed yesterdayin this room, by the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petroin a protocol session whose characteristic is the reaffirmation of the friendship, solidarity and brotherhood of the American nations“, he stated.
In this sense, he specified that said president referred to the Government of Peru and about the legal-prison conditions of Pedro Castillo, “with inappropriate phrases and far from the truth«.
«It is well known that on December 7 Pedro Castillo perpetrated a coup d’état, and that all the democratic institutions, including the Armed Forces, disobeyed that unconstitutional mandate, so that Congress later ordered his vacancy and activated, in this way, the mechanism of constitutional succession“he added.
Gustavo Adrianzén explained that these facts show that In Peru there is a constitutional government, the same one that is recognized by the vast majority of nations.
Pedro Castillo situation
Regarding the prison situation of former President Pedro Castillo, he said that he has been fulfilling two pretrial detention terms for the crimes of rebellion and conspiracy, as well as the alleged commission of acts of corruption.
