The Third Takeover of Lima called from the south for July 19, presents the opportunity to put an end to the reactionary and murderous government of Dina Boluarte.
If the wealthy elites thought they had defeated the great struggle in the south and dreamed of staying until at least 2026, they were wrong. After a brief space that allowed him to recover his strength and learn the lessons of the hard days of December-March that cost 69 lives and enormous sacrifices, the fight returns and recharges him.
He returns because his flags, after having been sullied and filled with grievances and lies by the holders of power, have been legitimized, not only due to the accusations against the government of having committed serious human rights violations and of trying to hide them with lies and refusing all kinds of investigation, but also due to his own failure to neglect social emergencies such as the Coastal Child and the dengue epidemic, which show his attitude, as well as being anti-democratic, anti-pop ular.
The oxygen that Boluarte gained with the withdrawal of the struggles has run out and what is growing now is the hatred against his government and his partners in Congress, especially when, mocking his announcements of bringing forward the elections, they intend not only to stay until 2026 but to flatten the ground to keep the reactionary sectors in power.
However, the new day that is announced is not and will not be easy. Not only because the government, although weak, is going to respond with more violence trying to obtain the same result as before, but because the momentum from the south –as we have already seen– is not enough to win. To win, workers’ and popular unity around this fight is required.
Giving shape to this unit is the responsibility of the CGTP as the national center in which the majority of the workers are grouped. The regional movements have done and are doing more than they can and should. That is why this unity can only be made from the CGTP and around the fight that those lead. It is a matter of following the example of the National Strike of July 19, 1977, which, by shaping the unity of the workers and the people in the struggle, managed to defeat the military dictatorship.
This task is not guaranteed by the CGTP, which in the previous stage already showed mediatized behavior and was seen from the south as a “betrayal”. Now the central convenes a day of struggle for that separate day and under its agenda; and to give him credit trying to “discipline” the wave that comes from the south, he has held a meeting of regional organizations and nominated a Fight Command, without thereby dissipating the mistrust of the bases.
For this reason, the most important task we have at this time is to discuss this situation in each base and in each assembly, and prepare ourselves to participate with all our might in this new journey, trying to translate unity into action.
The fall of Boluarte and forcing the early elections should make it possible to reconquer the lost democratic spaces to resume the struggle for demands, release the prisoners and defendants, open the trial and punishment of those responsible for the murders and start a new stage to reorganize the forces and advance in building a new class leadership, with a view to advancing towards the fundamental fight for the profound changes that we all need.
