Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov did not comment on the possibility of providing military assistance to the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DNR and LNR). Earlier, the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, said he did not rule out the possibility of seeking military assistance from Russia.
“No comment. The situation is indeed extremely tense, and so far we do not see signs of a decrease in the level of tension. Provocations and shelling are becoming more intense. This causes deep concern,” Mr. Peskov said during a press call.
In January, deputies from United Russia proposed organizing the supply of arms to the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass. Then Dmitry Peskov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was aware of the initiative, but did not react to it in any way.
The escalation of the conflict in eastern Ukraine began last week. On February 18, the authorities of the unrecognized DPR and LPR announced the evacuation of civilians to Russia and the mobilization of the male population.
