Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov explained the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to appoint a civilian official to the post of head of the Ministry of Defense by the need to introduce innovations, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.
“Today on the battlefield, the winner is the one who is more open to innovation, more open to the most rapid implementation. Therefore, at the current stage, the president decided that the Ministry of Defense should be headed by a civilian,” Peskov said.
He emphasized that Andrei Belousov is not just a civil official, but a person who “very successfully headed the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, who for a long time was the assistant to the president on economic issues and was also the first deputy chairman of the government in the previous cabinet of ministers.”
The Kremlin representative emphasized that the Ministry of Defense “must be absolutely open to innovation, to the introduction of all advanced ideas, to create conditions for economic competitiveness.” “That is why the president chose the candidacy of Andrei Removich Belousov,” Peskov concluded.
