Peskov: the situation is not easy, but the government controls the rise in prices

The Kremlin considers the situation with the rise in prices in Russia to be difficult, but the government controls it. This was stated at a press call by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.

“The government controls the situation with prices, there is a direct order from the President of Russia in this regard,” Mr. Peskov answered when asked how the Kremlin assesses the government’s efforts to control price increases.

Mr Putin previously said that prices are rising due to processes related to external market conditions and internal problems. “The government is engaged in both. But the situation is really difficult, and in this regard, the government is engaged in this on an ongoing basis, ”the Kremlin spokesman said.

The Kremlin positively assesses the government’s activities on price issues, “this requires really constant attention, since different parameters are constantly changing, which requires additional efforts of the cabinet of ministers, and this issue is constantly monitored,” he added. There are no plans for the president to meet with the relevant departments on these issues, but “Putin regularly holds meetings on issues of socio-economic development,” Dmitry Peskov noted.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Victoria Abramchenko announced a reduction in food prices. At the same time, due to the emergence of information about an increase in the cost of road transportation from 20% to 50%, Ms. Abramchenko instructed the relevant departments, together with business representatives, “to analyze the current situation and work out measures to solve problems with logistics and to reduce prices for transport services.”

On August 6, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Federal Antimonopoly Service to monitor the formation of prices for food products sold through retail chains. The report should be made by September 1.
