Host country of the 2023 petanque world championship, Benin is preparing its bowlers for a double challenge. The Cheetahs and Amazons have been training for a few days in Djadjo in the town of Abomey-Calavi.

This is the last phase of preparation for the bowlers of Benin for the world petanque of September 2023. The blocked internship should allow the country to set up a competitive team. “It is a source of pride (…) to have the whole group in full to allow us to make adjustments and to have (…) the typical team that will represent Benin”says Guy Tronou, national technical director of sport-boules.

From September 8 to 17, 2023, the bowlers Amazones and Cheetahs will face a double challenge at the Esplanade de l’Amazone in Cotonou, venue of the world petanque tournament. Beninese petanque players will first defend Benin’s status as host country of the 2023 World Petanque Games.

Highly anticipated, the Beninese dream big for their country. Petanque players aspire to be champions in several categories. “You can have at least three titles: the triplet, the doublet and the precision shots”assures the Beninese international and captain of the Guépards boulistes, Marcel Bio.

In front of more than 35 nations announced for the competition, the Cheetahs, vice-world champions, Madagascar 2016, will also seek to retain their title or do better than the Malagasy expedition. The national technical director of sport-boules, Guy Tronou, is delighted to have “stars” who can rise to the challenge in the female and male categories.
