96-year-old Petar Papazov and his wife, 89-year-old Dimitrina Papazova, are the oldest married couple in Ruse municipality. The family got married on April 17, 1951. On the occasion of Marriage Week, they were congratulated by the mayor Pencho Milkov for their impressive 73 years of life together, the municipal press center reports.

“There are few people like you – who have gone through the trials of life for so many years of marriage. They have given you the strength to carry on and taught you the most important life lessons. Because wise words and advice to future generations can be read in books, but without the experience of people like you, they cannot be assimilated,” the mayor addresses the Papazov family.

He wished the elderly couple health, spirit and time filled with lots of love and respect from those closest to them.

Petar and Dimitrina live in Rousse and have a grandson, a granddaughter and a great-grandson who are abroad. Their greatest joy is when the youngsters come back to town and can spend time with them.

Petar Papazov is a retired colonel who was the head of the Ruse Military District. His wife worked as an administrative officer in the transportation system. They lead an active lifestyle and like to gather with friends. They say that the way should be given to the young, because the world belongs to them.

“Grandpa Petyo and I have always managed to get along, no matter how many difficulties we have had over the years. This is how our generation was taught – if we stick together, nothing can bring us down,” says Dimitrina with a smile and wishes all the younger ones married couples to celebrate at least 73 years together, as their family managed to do.
