Swimming competitors Gabriela Georgieva and Petar Mitsin were the Bulgarian athletes who signed the Wall of the Olympic Truce in the Olympic Village in Paris.
Today, representatives of all National Olympic Committees were invited to the unveiling of the Wall, then asked to leave their personal messages on it.
Those present were welcomed by Thomas Bach – President of the International Olympic Committee, Tony Estangue – President of the Organizing Committee of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and Massoma Ali Zada - Head of Mission of the Refugee Team. Thomas Bach emphasized that officially the Olympic Truce began 3 days ago. The call that the IOC has chosen to promote is “Give Peace a Chance”.
The iconic Beatles song of the same name played throughout. Thomas Bach recalled that although the athletes compete fiercely against each other on the field, at the same time they live peacefully together in the Olympic Village.
